Kyra of the North
By David Decker
One can’t choose their parents or the life they were born into, but one can choose to be who they will become.
Born a Lowlander, Kyra lives on the outskirts of the city of Mountain Side. Growing up, she didn’t know her father, but her mother did what she could to ensure her daughter’s happiness. However, Kyra’s mother worries about what others might do to her daughter if they discover what she is capable of. Because of this, she keeps their life as quiet as possible and only ventures from their home when necessary to purchase supplies from the city.
Since turning seventeen, Kyra has become restless and wants to experience more than just their home and the fields around it. She wants to experience the city and the people within it. With the harvest upon them, Kyra convinces her reluctant mother to allow her to find work as a field hand. While working, Kyra is befriended by two teenage field workers from within the city, and she starts to experience things for the first time. As her world opens up, Kyra learns of a dark secret about her that forever changes her life and forces her to figure out her place in the world.

About the author
David Decker has always had an active imagination and love of drawing fantasy and science fiction. He has also been a fan of anime for as long as he can remember.
Kyra of the North is his first novel and a testament to his belief that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. During the early years of David’s education, it became evident that he was struggling with reading and writing, and he was not progressing with his fellow classmates. After being tested, he was classified with a learning disability, which affected how he comprehended and understood the structure of words when reading or writing. With the help and support of his family and educators, David was enrolled in special programs and classes to help him adapt as well as develop tools to help him throughout his life.
David obtained a BA in Graphic Arts from Western Connecticut State University and later an MS in Interactive Communication from Quinnipiac University.
